Why We Learn Gurmukhi
After the partition of 1947, Gurmukhi was systematically erased from the daily life of Lehnda Punjab. Reclaiming this script is more than a linguistic task; it is reopening a door that was shut for nearly eight decades.
Reasons to Learn Gurmukhi
Indigenous Design
Gurmukhi is the native script of Punjab, engineered to represent sounds no other script can authentically capture.
Spiritual Access
Essential to read Gurbani in its original form, preserving the sacred integrity of the Guru’s word.
Historical Record
The vast majority of Punjab’s archives and classical literature are documented in Gurmukhi.
Cultural Survival
No language survives without its script. Learning Gurmukhi ensures the long-term survival of Punjabi identity.
Source Connection
Regain the ability to read the literature of your ancestors without the filter of translation or bias.
Bridging the Divide
Allows East and West Punjab to communicate in a shared script, healing the cultural fracture of history.

Gurmukhi Course FAQ
Which Gurmukhi learning stream should I choose?
We offer two paths: Learn Gurmukhi from Shahmukhi path is for Punjabi speakers in West Punjab (Pakistan) who already know Shahmukhi. Learn Gurmukhi from English is for the diaspora who prefer learning Gurmukhi using English as the base.
How long does it take to learn the script?
Our structured curriculum is designed to take a beginner to functional literacy in 5 to 8 weeks. This includes mastering the 35 primary letters (Painti Akhri), vowel markers (Laga Matra), and conjunct symbols.
Are the classes live or recorded?
Classes are held live via Zoom to ensure correct phonetic pronunciation. However, we do provide access to recorded sessions and notes for independent review and practice.
Is there a cost for the certification?
No. Both the course and the final Certificate of Literacy are provided free of charge. Our goal is to remove all barriers to learn Gurmukhi, the indigenous script of Punjab.
What materials are required for the course?
A notebook and pen are essential for practicing writing. While we provide free PDFs, we highly recommend our printed Gurmukhi Qaida for a more tactile learning experience, which you can find in our Publications section.
